Little bit of a crisis...

We received an email from our local CIS office that is working on
updating the age range on our paperwork that will allow Ryland to
immigrate to the US. We updated our Home Study while we were back in
Texas and sent them a copy, but they informed us that our fingerprints
expired yesterday!!! So they can't issue the approval yet... We are
waiting to hear back from them as to what the heck we do since we are in
Kaz. In the meantime, we've called the embassy here and best we can
gather so far (the visa office was closed today) is that we will have to
travel to Almaty or Astana to get fingerprinted and they will FedEx our
fingerprints to back to the US for processing. They say this usually
takes a week or two. PERFECT!!!! Another delay! This holds up some of
the out processing in Pavlodar as that form is needed! Who knows how
long we will be here now...I'm beginning to think we should buy a
vacation home here!
Anyone else had this happen to them while in country?

Frustrated in Pavlodar,
Dust & Cort

PS - Everything is set as of right now for us to take custody of Ryland
tomorrow around lunchtime! Will keep you posted!!!

Our fingerprints expired while I was in Almaty to pick up Cody. Steve was home and had his redone but I had mine done in Astana. Mine came back within a week I think. Email me on facebook if you want more infomation or my contact at the Astana Embassy. He was awesome!

Sorry to hear this but relieved it does not delay your custody date. Good luck with the fingerprints.

My fingerprints also expired while I was in Ust. I flew to Almaty for a day immediately after my court date to have my fingerprints re-done at the US Embassy the returned to Ust the next day to wait out the appeal period (this was in 2006 when I stayed the entire time and completed my first adoption in 43 days). By the time I arrived back in Almaty a few weeks later for my Embassy appt. everything was fine. But I was very nervous because they did everything by hand (no digital prints) and then told me about 2 weeks to process. I kept thinking "what if they don't get a good set of prints!" The fact that they only told you a week is even better. Won't you likely be in Almaty close to that amount of time? Maybe you could get there a little earlier than planned to take care of this while they continue to process Ry's paperwork?

Oh my goodness you guys! I have never heard of another couple having so many bumps, yet stay so positive. Many kudos to you guys. You're such an inspiration to those who are waiting.

I hope the fingerprints get turned around quickly. (And I do know of an American who bought an apartment in Kaz to go back and vacation every summer! She rents it out to adopting families when she and her daughter aren't using it.)

Hi guys,

Just a suggestion....you could spend the remainder of your time in Astana. Since we were pretty isolated in Petro and everything took 2-4 more days with DHL to get our paperwork back and forth, we decided to remain in Astana. We ended saving close to 2 weeks in our particular circumstances. Svetlana was our coordinator as well... and Yacov's coordinator in Astana put us up in an apt (at the same price as we were spending in Petro!) We got to sightsee Astana.,,kind of our first family vacation... and let's face it.. it was nice to do and see new things. There are amazing things to do.. especially given Ryland's age..It got us out of the country quicker since we were leaving from Astana as well. Something to ponder...or not. Jocelyne

Julie, Jocelyne, Jennifer and Pam (and everyone else who has given helpful advice)....I love how everyone is giving Dustin and Cortney so much help and positive suggestions. I wish I had some great feedback. I'm just here in Texas hoping, wishing and keeping my fingers crossed at all times! I have strangers at work (Baylor Irving) praying for your quick and safe return home. Good luck on the fingerprints C&D! I think Jocelyne's suggestion is terrific. A change of scenery might be just what you ALL need!
