In Astana
We have arrived in Astana after a crazy journey so far! Our US
Airways flight from Dallas to Philly was diverted because the plane
ran out of fuel...nice! That caused us to miss our Lufthansa flight
from Philly to Frankfurt. We were able to catch a US Airways flight to
Frankfurt, but we sat on that plane for 2 hours before take-off
because of maintenance issues. When we were finally able to fly
Lufthansa, everything was great during the leg from Frankfurt to
Astana. But, thanks to all the craziness with US Airways, our luggage
is MIA. I knew I should've put his car in my carry-on, but I didn't!
Not to mention all of our clothes and gifts for court! It's
frustrating...but what can you do?
Lufthansa is doing what they can and will deliver our luggage to
Pavlodar ASAP. It looks like we'll be hitting up the toy store before
heading to the orphanage!
To those of you with upcoming travel plans to Kaz, we'd like to give
the following advice. Fly Lufthansa if possible (service, food, staff,
seats, & professionalism is far superior...in our humble opinion).
Also, for us it was so much easier flying through Astana as opposed
through Almaty. The airport here has a much more calm and organized
feel... and they have free wi-fi! Lastly, if you are abroad, have an
iPhone and have access to wi-fi, sign up for the Skype App ($2.99/mo
unlimited calling). I'm making calls on my phone here to back home
and the sound quality is perfect. Let us know if any questions, we'd
be glad to help!
Going to attempt to get some sleep - we found a lovely row of chairs!
We CANNOT wait to see D tomorrow!!!!!

Oh my, this Kaz travel truly IS an adventure, isn't it. Hooray that you're almost there and back to D. I'm hoping that your luggage will catch up to you REALLY soon. I'm sure you will be able to find a replacement car in Pavlodar and then when your luggage arrives, D can get another car! He'll be doubly excited I'm sure. :)
Cheers,
Tanya (mama to Cooper from Schuchinsk)
So sorry about your travel problems but so glad you made it safely there. Thank you for sharing the information about travel. We are leaving in less than two weeks for Kaz ourselves.
You say the monthly app fee is only $2.99 for your iphone? Even for international calling?
Thanks and congratulations!
We agree that Luftansa is by far the best. We had a great experience with them and we never paid any extra fees.
Sorry to hear about your luggage - and on this trip when you really need your clothes!
Oh well, it will work out and you'll have more details to add to your journey story!!
You get to see D soon!!!!!
